CAWSER IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

DISTRIBUTION OF CAWSER IN UK

As with Corser and Causer, the occurrences of Cawser in the IGI (left map) are centred in the west Midlands region of England. The highest number of occurrences, again like the other two names, is in Shropshire, but the total number is much lower, as are the occurrences in Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. There are a very small number in Herefordshire and Derbyshire.

In the 1881 census (centre map) the majority of occurrences are again found in the west Midlands region, with the highest concentration in Staffordshire and none in Shropshire or Worcestershire. Derbyshire has a very small number, as has Hampshire.

The picture at the Millennium shows very little spread of Cawser, with the concentration again in the west Midland region. The highest concentrations are in Shropshire and the new county of West Midlands,  and Derbyshire has rather smaller numbers. Essex and London, Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire, Hampshire and Conwy all have very small numbers of occurrences.
